A survivor of the learning disability Dysgraphia, he currently lives in the Pittsburgh area with his wife Aleta Ploskina and their dogs, Socrates and Archimedes.

Taiwan

After graduating from Saint Vincent College, John spent two years living in Taiwan. Working as an English teacher, he traveled the island by motorcycle, got into the TaiPei metal scene and ultimately met his wife. He also spent time in Japan, the Philippines and Hong Kong.

Much of John's fiction touches on his time overseas and many of his short stories are set in Taiwan.

Dysgraphia
John was born with Dysgraphia, a learning disability related to Dyslexia. Most of his childhood was spent learning to overcome this problem in spite of the soulless bureaucrats who wanted to shoe horn him into remedial classes in spite of his intelligence. He attributes his success to the strength and hard work of his parents and the values of self reliance they gave him.
